Slime at Smite
8th December 2011 11:50:07
This structure is a plasmodium and comprises of a colony of primitive creatures or ‘slime moulds’. The plasmodium is moving (very very slowly) through our grassland whilst grazing on bacteria, fungal spores and other pieces of tiny organic matter.
They're harmless and have probably ’got together’ since nutrients are less available at this time of year and the colony absorbs food more effectively than an individual.
